Passage: Ephesians 1:11–14
What Is the Ultimate Purpose of Our Salvation?
In this powerful message based on Ephesians 1:11–14, we are reminded that the chief end of our salvation is not our comfort, status, or success—but God’s glory.
1. Claimed as His Inheritance (vv.11–12)
God has claimed us as His inheritance, not because of who we are or what we’ve done, but because of His love and sovereign will. Paul describes this act as a purposeful choice where God, working all things according to His will, has made us His own treasured possession.
We are not just recipients of an inheritance—we are the inheritance.
This identity replaces our insecurity: once orphans, now sons and daughters claimed by grace.
Being God’s inheritance means we are loved, valued, and purposed for His glory.
"For the Lord’s portion is His people..." (Deuteronomy 32:9)
2. Sealed as His Possession (vv.13–14)
Paul then shifts the focus to how both Jews and Gentiles are now sealed with the Holy Spirit when they believe the gospel of salvation. This sealing is not just a symbol—it is the guarantee of our redemption.
The seal of the Holy Spirit confirms that we belong to God.
It’s not based on feelings or experiences but on hearing and believing the truth of the gospel.
This seal guarantees our future inheritance and empowers us to live a life of worship today.
The Gospel of Our Salvation
The “gospel of salvation” is not about prosperity or emotional highs—it's the good news that Jesus Christ took the wrath of God upon Himself for our sin, died, and rose again. Through Him, we are redeemed, forgiven, and secured.
This gospel rescues us from false worship and reorients our hearts to the One who truly satisfies.
We are saved not merely from something but for something: for God’s glory.
Application: Living to the Praise of His Glory
Because we are claimed, sealed, and guaranteed by God Himself:
Let us live as His possession, not our own.
Let us enjoy God now through Scripture, prayer, and fellowship, as a foretaste of heaven.
Let us worship the Triune God who saved us, not for self-gain, but for the praise of His glory.
The Beloved (Jesus) was de-glorified on the cross so we could be glorified in Him. His last breath became our first in the new creation.
Soli Deo Gloria – To God alone be the glory.
